KIM’S PARTIES

CEASED DECEMBER 2000

For anyone whoever attended one of these bi weekly parties, it was an experience never to be forgotten. Reactions of those who turned up varied enormously, ranging from complete terror, utter disbelief or deciding this was the best thing since sliced bread. The fact was that these weekly tranny parties became Brighton’s longest running trans eventand will be sorely missed, not because they were a great laugh, but because they were so surreal!

There were those, myself included, that felt that things got a little too sordid at times and the thought of what went on behind closed doors sometimes, quite frankly made my stomach turn, but it was an outlet for men who wanted to dress up and have fun with each other, if that’s what you were looking for.

On a purelty personal note, it was a convenient watering hole twice a week where I could completely blind drunk for the price of a bottle of wine! Of course there was  more to Kim’s than sex and booze (I think!) and whatever you went there for you always left with a smile. Whether through sexual release, ten pints of home brew, a realisation that you would never see anything this bizarre ever again or because the conversation was really relaxed. The fact thay you could wear what you want and be what you want, without any hassle was something that could be learned by a lot of venues. And on the whole everybody was friendly. Ok, I wasn’t, I took the piss out of everyone, but apart from me, and OK, maybe Heather too, everybody was treated equally.

It is a sad loss to Brighton that I feel Brighton doesn’t realise has disappeared forever! But I would like to take this opportunity to thank kim for the laughs and beer over the years and wish her all the best in her new life overseas.
